The Othe Side of the MTV Generation.

I have been feasting on African Voices for a few days now and really enjoyed this interview with the cast of Shuga. I remember reading about the TV show in an article a while back but seeing and hearing the cast members talk about the impact it had in Kenya, Zambia and other places where it has been screened is very encouraging.

I think we could do with some more of these kind of television dramas on our screen not just for the entertainment value but for the educative elements and lessons embedded in it.You know, when adults tell you not to do something or that you should watch your lifestyle, you feel stifled by their interference but when someone from your generation lays it down, you do have to admit, they can’t all be wrong. In my opinion, that is what makes Shuga accessible to those who have taken the bold step to queue up, get tested for HIV/Aids, talk about their experiences and make a change in their attitude to this free-for-all approach we have taken to sex, drugs and all that’s in-between.

I would sit and watch this, not the truckload of rubbish they beam around the globe!

Enjoy watching!
